Audrey smiled and blushed slightly. "Thanks..." she murmured. Brad never told her she looked good, or beautiful, or anything. He just called her hot, or sexy. Those words didn't mean as much.

No problem. Alex said. He liked complimenting Audrey.

Audrey just smiled, still blushing. The doorbell rang. Audrey got up. "That's Brad. I gotta go. See you." she called, as she walked to the door.

Okay, see you later. Alex replied. Then he turned his attention back to the TV. He was watching a rerun of CSI, the one where the dead people were all talking to each other.

Audrey walked outside and Brad grabbed her. "Happy belated birthday babe! And Merry Christmas!" he said excitedly, kissing her. Audrey was caught a little off guard but, kissed him back, less enthusiastically.

Audrey followed Brad into his car. "I have your presents but, you'll have to wait til we get to Mom and Dad's." Brad said with a smirk. Audrey smiled. "Then you have to wait til then to get your's too." she teased. Brad laughed and drove off to his parents' house.

CSI finished, and then Alex went upstairs and had a shower. Then he got dressed, in some nice jeans and a nice sweater. He put all of the presents in the car and then drove to his dad's house.

When they pulled up at Brad's parents' house, Audrey got the presents out of the car and walked up the steps. She was kind of nervous. When his mother answered the door, everybody hugged and kissed hello. She then went into the kitchen to help Brad's mum with the food. "Why, Audrey. You're looking very nice today." she said. Audrey smiled awkwardly. "Thank you Mrs. Sherwood..." she said politely. "You're showing quite a bit of cleavage for a Christmas lunch though. Who are you planning to impress in that little get up?" Mrs. Sherwood asked in a very passive agressive way. Audrey turned beet red and then took a tray of appetizers out into the living room. This was going to be a very long day...

Alex walked into his dad's house. Caroline, Mike and the kids were already there. He said hi to everyone, and put the presents under the tree, along with the gift cards he had gotten for Caro and Mike. Then everyone just sat in the living room talking. The food had been cooked earlier and just needed to be warmed up.

Once the hors-d'ouevres were eaten, everybody gathered around the tree to open presents. Brad pulled Audrey away from all the commotion and stood in the front foyer so that they could exchange their gifts a little more privately. Audrey handed Brad his gifts first. There was a $100 gift card to Home Depot, a $100 gift certificate to the mall, and, two tickets to a Toronto Leafs game. Brad looked thrilled. He hugged and kissed Audrey. "Thank you so much baby! They're great!" he said excitedly. He then handed Audrey her gift. She carefully opened it and found a $100 gift card to the mall. At first she almost thought it was a joke. Brad smiled. 'Half for birthday, half for Christmas. I didn't know what you wanted and I really didn't have time to shop around so I just got you that. I knew you'd like it." he said. Audrey was getting mad. She had been with Brad for over a year! How could he get her something as meaningless as this!? For a friend or something, those kinds of gifts were great, but not for a girlfriend you've been with for a year! Compared to what Alex got her, this was nothing! Brad grinned. "Man! I am so happy you got me these tickets! James gonna be so excited to go with me!" he gushed. "James...!?" Audrey asked, a little confused. "Yeah, well, you're not going to come with me! Ha! Take a chick to a hockey game!" he laughed. "I happen to like the Leafs okay? How can you just think of taking him instead of me!? I was the one who bought the damn tickets!" she said, her voice raising slightly. "God baby! Relax! Jeez! PMS! If you really like the Leafs, you can come! Don't make such a big issue out of this!" Brad snapped. Audrey was very mad now. "It's the principle of the thing, Brad! I get you what I think is a pretty decent gift, and you get me something a fourteen year old would buy their girlfriend! I mean, I don't care about how much you spend on me or anything but I would like to know that you at least put some thought into the gift! And then you don't even think about taking your girlfriend with you to the game? I don't care! Hell! I would have gladly let you go with James, but, I would like to be considered!" she said, getting upset. "Jeez! I didn't think it was such a big deal! What the hell did I do wrong!?" Brad yelled angrily at her. "You showed me that I don't mean anything to you! I need a man who I can spend the rest of my life with! I need someone who is willing to commit! I want to get married, and start a family, and spend the rest of my life with someone I love! You, obviously, don't!" she yelled back. At this point, other family members were crowding around. Audrey was embaressed. "So what? Are we breaking up?" Brad screamed, not looking phased in the least. Audrey grabbed her coat and slipped on her shoes. "I think we need to take a break. I need some time away from you and you obviously need some time to think about what I mean to you, because if you don't love me the way I love you, we have to stop this." she said simply as she walked out of the house. She pulled out her cell phone and called a taxi. "Baby! Wait! I'll drive you home!" Brad called. Audrey shook her head and wiped away the few tears that were rolling down her cheeks. She got into the cab and gave the man directions to Alex's parents' house and drove away from Brad.

Alex and his family were having a good time, laughing and talking. After a while, Caro went into the kitchen and started to warm up the food. Mike went to help her. Alex, his dad and the kids stayed in the living room. Hey Shawn, come here. Alex said to the older of the two. Shawn walked over to his uncle and sat on the couch beside him. Alex told Shawn to do something while they ate, and he'd give him a toonie if he did it. Shawn promised that he would, he wanted the money.

Audrey took a deep breath. God. She was embaressed. She had tidied herself up and fixed her makeup in the cab, but, she was going to have to tell Alex what happened and she really didn't want to be judged right now. She paid the cabby, got out of the car, and walked up to the door. She took a deep breath and hoped that Alex would answer. She just wanted to tell him now, get that out of the way, and they could talk later if anything. She knocked on the door.

When Alex heard a knock at the door, he went over to answer it. He was surprised to see Audrey there. HE hadn't even been totally sure that she would come, let alone this early. Hey. he said.

"Hi..." she said softly. She looked humiliated. "I know I'm here kind of early. Brad and I got into a fight... We aren't broken up but...we need some time apart...to think things over...I don't know how things are going to end up... Could we talk about this later?" she told him, very quietly.
