First Day on the Job ((Alex))

Mister John Cranley lead Audrey Kenmore through the hospital, showing her around. Mister Cranley was the hospital coordinator and basically ran it. "And this is the maternity ward, and down here is the pediatric cancer center. Down in the left wing is the emergency reception area... Oh hello! Dr. Kenmore, this is Dr. Alex Wilhelm. Wilhelm, this is Dr. Audrey Kenmore." said the head of the hospital. Audrey looked the man up and down. "Hello." she said.

Alex looked at Audrey. She was very good looking, and he liked her name. Hey. He said. Nice to meet you. He said, offering his hand for her to shake.

Audrey shook his hand. "You too." she said. Mister Cranley smiled. "I've decided to partner you two up. You are both the youngest here but you are both very very qualified for your job. Plus, there's a rule at this hospital: two doctors to each patient. That way, we can make sure that the patients can get the care they need. Plus, this way, Dr. Kenmore can get used to the hospital." he said. Audrey wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea. She was completely qualified to take care of everything on her own. A nurse tapped Mister Cranley on the shoulder. "Mister Cranley, we need your opinion in room 1141. Misses Larken's family needs to know whether or not they should pull the plug." she told him. Mister Cranley sighed. "I'll be right there. You two get more aquainted before you start your rounds. I have to take care of this." he said, following the nurse. "Thanks Mister Cranley." Audrey called after him. She then just stood there.

Alex would rather work on his own but sometimes it was nice having another person to work with. He didn't really want to be the new girls partner though, but he would have to and that was that. After Mr. Cranley left he stood there for a second. Soo.. He said, trying to think of something to say.

"If you don't mind, I have some business to attend to." she said, walking towards the pediatric cancer wing.

((he can be like "audrey, we're supposed to work together" and she can say "its dr kenmore to you" and he can be like "whoa! pms!" and stuff! lmao! and when they get to the little girl's room audrey can introduce herself as audrey and he can mutter like "you let the little girl call you audrey" or sumthin like that! lmao!))

Audrey spun around. "That's Dr. Kenmore to you. I'll have you know that I don't need someone to babysit me. I graduated first in my class and unlike you and the other snobs around here, Mommy and Daddy didn't pay my way into medical school! I can handle myself thanks." she said sternly.

((Ooh. lol. My Keith and his wife are mad that his mom is going to Ireland because she's wasting the money that they could be getting when she dies. That makes everyone mad because its very unconsiderate and greedy.))

Someone's cranky. I didn't need my parents to pay my way into med school, my grades were good enough and I don't doubt that you can handle yourself, but we still have to work together. Alex said.

((uncle keith's wife, debbie is like that. my grandfather used to pay their bills, buy everything for their kids, treat my grandparents like crap, and other stuff))

"I don't need to work together with you. Thanks but I can do it myself." she said, defensively. Audrey walked into the pediatric cancer centre and knocked on one of the doors. When she heard somebody say that it was okay, she walked inside. She stooped down at the bedside of a small girl who was bald and had no eyebrows. She was very pale and skinny. She had a brain tumour and had side effects from the chemotherapy. "Hi. You must be Allison." she said softly. Audrey was really good with kids who were going through tough times. "Hello." said Allison with a smile. She was in good spirits for a child who had gone through such trauma at only eight years old. "I'm Dr. Kenmore. I'm gonna be taking care of you so that you can get better. You can call me Audrey." she told the little girl.

Most of us can do stuff on our own but we have to work in pairs. Unless you want to get in troulbe your first day on the job we have to work together. Alex said. He followed Audrey into the room. Allison already knew him so he didn't introduce himself again. She was such a brave, amazing kid. She can call you Audrey and I can't? He muttered, loud enough for Audrey to hear. There was no way he was calling her Dr. Kenmore.

Audrey just turned and glared at Alex. She then turned her attention back to Allison. "So how are you feeling today?" Audrey asked, softly. Allison shrugged. "Okay I guess. I've been feeling really nausious and I have a really bad headache but I get that everyday." she said. Audrey's heart broke for Allison. She had no idea what it would be like to have to face that everyday at such a young age. "Yeah?" Audrey said. Allison nodded. "We can put some medication in the drip that might help your headache. Do you want me to?" she asked. Allison nodded. Audrey turned to Alex. "Wilhelm, will you get me an IV bag of slow-dose oxycontin please?" she asked.

Alex got what Audrey asked for and gave it to her.

((You use these big words that I don't understand. lol. I understand what you said there, but I would never even think of them. lol. Where do you learn this stuff?))

((lol. my dad knows a lot about medications and other medical stuff. he reads a lot. and i know a lot of veterinarian stuff. plus i watch House! Lmao!))

"Thanks." Audrey told him. She hung the bag on the stand and attached the IV tube to it so that it would drip into Allison's veins. "It should start working in a little while. It takes long to work but you know what? It lasts really long so it will make you feel better." she told her. Allison smiled. "Thank you." she said. "Don't mention it." Audrey replied with a warm smile. "Now, we're going to have to take some blood from you. Are you alright or do you want your mom or dad with you?" she asked softly. Allison shook her head. "I don't like needles but I don't need Mommy or Daddy." she said. Audrey giggled slightly. "Alright sweetie." she said. She quickly prepared the needle and the vile. She gestured to Alex for him to hold Allison so she wouldn't move and wouldn't be as scared.

((I watch House and I know nothing. lol. And Manda's dad is a doctor, and thats like all I have doctor-wise going for me. lol. I haven't even been in a hospital because I was hurt since I was two, and all I remember was getting a lot of candy so I would stop crying. lol.))

Alex did as he was told.

Audrey quickly stuck the needle into the crease of Allison's arm and collected the blood as quickly as she could. She then removed the needle and pressed a piece of cotton wool on the spot so that it would stop bleeding. She then let Allison pick out a bright pink Cinderella bandaid and put it on for her. "There we go. All down. You were really brave." she told Allison with a smile. The little girl beamed. "Thanks." she said.
