Audrey had been working at the hospital for about six months now and her partner, Alex, was definately getting on her nerves. He was a pain! He always told her what to do and how to do it, and he was always bugging her about one thing or another. Today they were operating on a middle-aged man who had a blocked artery. Very little blood was getting through. They were performing surgery on his heart to fix this problem. Audrey sighed. She was exasperated. "Wilhelm, your hand is in my way again! I cannot fit the shunt into the aorta if you don't get out of my way!" she told him. Alex and Audrey were always bickering about something.

Alex wasn't that impressed with being stuck working with Audrey. He moved his hand as far as he could to make sure that she had enough room to do what she had to do. He quickly made a face at her before concentrating on what was going on again.

Audrey rolled her eyes. Alex was really immature. Audrey carefully picked up the shunt with the tweezers. She carefully spread open the artery a little bit and slipped the tiny metal mesh device into the vein. She then took another tool and stuck it into the artery so that the shunt would open up. Shunts were mesh things used to hold veins open so that blood could flow through. "Alright. He's done now. Lucy and Angela, start stitching him up. Put him on a sedative and oain killer but keep him off of any blood thinners. Once he recovers and can go home, we'll put him on ten miligrams of acetylsalicylic acid and then raise it up by ten miligrams every month, once he's responding well to it, until he's up to about eighty miligrams. Got all that?" she told another nurse who was writing that all down. She nodded. "Type that up and fax it to his family doctor and put another copy on file here. Eric you can wake him up now but he has to be monitored. I have other patients to attend to. Thanks everyone." she told them as she removed her mask and gloves. She washed her hands and walked out of the operating room. ((i got the fancy name for aspirin off a website. lmao. that 1 i didnt know i cant even pronounce acetylsalicylic acid!))

((I have no idea how to say it. Manda has this long word for something to do with something and I cannot say the stupid word! lol. I can't even remember what it is, but I know it's something she read on one of her dad's books. lol))
Alex let Audrey talk to the other people and then took off his mask and gloves. He washed his hands and walked out after her.

((lmao! i know what DNA stands for and I can pronounce it! deoxyribonucleic acid! lmao!))
Audrey walked into Allison's room. The little girl's condition had decreased dramatically. She was so pale and had lost at least twenty pounds which is tons especially if you are only eight years old. She was completely bald and she could barely keep her eyes open. She was no longer eating and her parents were always with her now, scared that she might go when they're not around. "Hi Mr. and Mrs. Jones." Audrey said with a warm smile as she walked into the room. Allison's parents smiled and said hello back. They had really gotten to know each other in the past few months. Audrey stooped down near the dying girl's bed. "Hey honey. How are you doing?" she asked softly. Allison was taking deep, laboured breaths. "I'm so tired..." the girl whispered. Audrey nodded. "I know you are sweetie. You can sleep if you want." she told her. "I'm scared to." Allison said. Audrey looked over at Allison's parents who were very upset. "Why are you scared?" Audrey asked, resting her hand on Allison's withered hand. "Because if I go to sleep, I'm not going to wake up." she said very quietly. Audrey's heart broke. "No sweetie. We won't let that happen to you okay? We want you to be happy and comfy. We'll take really good care of you and if you get really sick while you're sleeping, we'll give you some medicine to make you feel a little better." she said, her eyes welling up with tears. Audrey blinked back the tears. She wasn't allowed to show her emotions right now. She was dealing with a patient and any sign of fear or sadness would make them worry and frighten them. Audrey glanced over at Alex.

((You can say that?! lol!))
Alex looked at Audrey. She looked upset, she hadn't listened to him and had gotten too attached to Allison. He didn't have anything to add, she had covered it all.

((yup! that was a fun day in science class )) Allison closed her eyes. Audrey just watched her. She glanced over at her heart monitor. She was fading fast. "Wilhelm, I need you to get Dr. Jacobs and Mr. Cranely." she said. She spoke calmly but her heart was racing. She rested two fingers against Allison's neck to feel her pulse. It was barely there.

Alex didn't waste time answering, he just left the room and came back shortly after with Dr. Jacob's and Cranely.

"We're losing her." Audrey said softly. She could hear Allison's mother begin to cry. Dr. Jacobs looked at Allison and sighed. He glanced over at Allison and shook his head. Audrey looked over at Alex. Why wasn't anybody doing anything?! She brought Dr. Jacobs in because he was the most experienced doctor at the hospital and he knew tons about cancer. Audrey didn't think, she just acted. She grabbed the oxygen mask and put it on Allison. She began to pump her chest to try and save her. "Dr. Kenmore..." Mr. Cranely said softly. He rested his hand on her shoulder. "She's gone." he said, pointing to the heart monitor. Audrey shook her head. "What about the defribrilator?" she asked. She didn't want the little girl to die. Dr. Jacobs shook his head. "That only works for a heart attack. She's too weak Audrey. She couldn't fight anymore." he said gently. "Dr. Jacobs, call it." said Dr. Cranely. Dr. Jacobs sighed. "Time of death: 6:19 p.m." he said. Audrey looked over at Allison's parents who were devastated. They were both crying and Mrs. Jones was holding her daughter's hand. "I'm so, so sorry..." she told them very quietly. She looked at Dr. Jacobs pulled the sheet over the little girls head. She couldn't handle it anymore and she felt the tears start to roll down her cheeks. She walked towards the door and pushed Alex out of the way. She walked out of the room and straight towards her office.

It was always hard to lose a patient, but Audrey had gotten too close and must feel worse than a normal doctor would. He followed Audrey after she shoved him aside and went to her office. He let himself in. Audrey. He said softly, pausing to try to think of something to say.

Audrey tried to desperately wipe her eyes. She was breathing heavily but she didn't want Alex to see her cry. They really didn't like each other and they didn't get along. Audrey figured that Alex would probably tease her about acting like such a wimp.

It's normal to be upset. Alex said, It's always hard to lose a patient and the first is the worst. Especially since you let her get too close, I did the same thing when I started out. Except it was an innocent kid who was in a grocery store when a robber started randomly shooting and got him. It gets easier, but still not totally easy. He said.

Audrey didn't answer. She just stared out the window with her back facing Alex and tried to control her breathing. She didn't want to cry in front of him but it was hard. She never usually cried unless something really bad happened. She felt like such a wimp now for crying, in public, over someone who wasn't even related to her.

Alex walked over to the window beside Audrey. Atleast for once she hadn't complained when he had called her Audrey. He looked out the window but didn't really focus on anything.

Audrey turned her head away from Alex as her sobs became louder. She wiped her eyes. She was so embaressed. Dr. Jacobs, Mr. Cranely, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and now Alex had all seen her cry.
