Sawyer laughed slightly and walked away. He was a real jerk but deep down, he actually was a nice guy. He didn't let people get too emotionally close to him though.

Ana drove home with Sam. Sam asked a few questions about the guy smoking, like was he allowed there which was a no, and did he get in trouble which Ana answered yes even though he hadn't gotten into real trouble, and then why he sounded so funny when he talked.

Sawyer walked into Sears and bought the box of nails and drill bit that he needed. He gave the cashier hell because she wouldn't accept an invalid coupon and he was eventually thrown out of the store, without his tools. He'd have to return some other day. He walked to his old, beat up car and drove home.

After a few minutes of driving, Sam and Ana were home. It was a very nice house. Ana's dead fiancee had had a lot of money and made sure that they had nice stuff. Ana had gotten everything he owned, but she refused to spend the money or anything. She didn't want to benefit off of his death. She only would use it when she needed to. She would probably use it to send Sam to college or university when the time came. What do you want for supper? Ana asked Sam. Umm.. Pizza? Sam replied. Okay, you go play in your bedroom or something and I'll make pizza. Ana said. Ana walked into the kitchen and got a frozen pizza out of the freezer. Sam ran upstairs to her room. Ana turned on the oven and heard her name being called from upstairs. She walked up the stairs and into Sam's room. Mommy, somethings wrong with Pretty Boy, he won't move and he's not squealing when I touch him. Sam said before Ana got a chance to ask what Sam was calling her for. Ana looked in the hamster cage. Pretty Boy was dead. Ana thought that was a good thing though. That hamster was such a pain. He squealed whenever anyone held him, he was always getting shavings all over the carpet, he bit people, he ate too much... Oh sweety, I don't think there's anything we can do for him. Ana said. Can't we take him to the doctor? Sam asked. Ana was about to say no, but she didn't want to disappoint Sam by not doing anything for the hamster. Yeah, I guess. Get your jacket and shoes on, I'll be down in a minute. Ana said. Sam went downstairs to get ready to go. Ana walked into the bathroom and grabbed a lot of paper towel. She grabbed the hamster and kept him in the paper towel. Then she went downstairs and got herself ready. She and Sam walked out to the car and Ana put Sam into the car seat. Then she got in and put Pretty Boy on the passenger side. Then she drove to the vet. Once they got there the vet quickly gave Pretty Boy a checkup to humor Sam, even though they knew he was dead. He was three so he had died of old age most likely. The vet explained that Pretty Boy had died of old age to Sam. Then Sam and Ana walked outside, Sam was bawling. Sammy, it's okay. You can get a new hamster, one just like Pretty Boy. He always bit you anyways. And he made such a big mess of your room. Ana said to Sam. Sam continued to cry, I don't want another hamster, I want Pretty Boy. I love him. Sam cried.

When Sawyer got home, he watched some TV but he was bored out of his mind. He decided he might aswell go get something to eat. He drove to a little local place that sold really good fried chicken. When he had finished eating he walked out of the restaurant and toward his car. He noticed the women and the little girl from the mall. He saw that the girl was crying. Sawyer wasn't one who really cared about anything. Well, he did care, but he didn't like to show it. He walked over to the woman. "Is she okay?" he asked softly.

No, Pretty Boy's dead. Sam answered for her mom. Her hamster. Ana said, so the man would have some idea of what Sam was upset about.

Sawyer sighed. He knew all too well about loss. He stooped down in front of Sam so that he would be closer to her level. "You miss him huh?" he asked very softly.

"I know it hurts a lot. It'll get better though. Trust me. I've been through it. It hurts a lot at first but every day you'll feel a little better. You'll always be sad but you can remember the fun times and then you won't feel so upset." Sawyer told the little girl. It was obvious that he meant every last word he said. He had been through a lot worse. He knew how to handle this sort of thing. "And you know what? Pretty Boy is up in heaven watching you and taking care of you now. And I bet he's really really happy there. He probably misses you too, but he still loves you and is watching over you."

Sam listened to everything the man said. At the mention of heaven, she right away thought of her dad. Is he keeping Daddy company in heaven now? She asked the man softly.

Sawyer looked up at Ana, not realizing that Sam's father had died. Sawyer nodded. "Of course." Sawyer said to the little girl, like if he was one hundred percent sure about it.

That made Sam feel better. She managed to stop crying. I'm glad Daddy has a friend now. She said.

Sawyer smiled for about a split second. He didn't smile too often, unless it was one of his teasing, sarcastic smiles. "I am too." he said simply, to make Sam feel better.

I'm gonna miss him though. Sam said. She was glad that her daddy had a friend now, but she would still miss Pretty Boy.

"You will. You always will. Just think of the good times you had with Pretty Boy and it will get better." he said, standing up again.
